Suspension.

The city streets are crawling; at least that’s what they seem to him. Suspended high above this place, he watches. Family, friends, loved ones—they all pass by in the blink of an eye to him. He sees his children grow and die, his grandchildren do the same; there is no time for him, he’s suspended in the rush. He’s watching innocent men die and convicted killers live; so warped it seems. While hanging in that rift he realizes right and wrong, sees light and dark; he knows more than the 6 senses will ever allow us; he looks up and finds answers to his questions, he sees hope, feels love, tastes life, touches compassion, and hears mercy. He looks below once more; clouds pass by and the earth keeps spinning, but he’s suspended there in that space. He’s forced to watch civilizations grow successfully then burn themselves down. He hears the melody of time. As each second passes, a new harmony is composed. “Such vibrancy comes from this?” he thinks to himself as he hangs, as he floats. The metronome keeps ticking and the melody gains speed, his eyes glued to what’s below. A tear rolls down his cheek, he wants to look away but he can’t; so much pain, so much agony: why? The reflection of hatred, violence and betrayal flicker off his iris as such a beautiful melody plays in a time of great despair.

Just then he falls, faster and faster his body is thrown downward. No more world, no more people, no life; death is all he knows. The wonderful melody he once loved is replaced with silence, and the beings below are no longer there to befriend him. Isolation comes quick, but it stays, it lingers. He looks left, black, right, black; nothing to remind him of life. He looks up, remembering what the deep blue sky once looked like, but all he saw was darkness, and all that surrounded him was emptiness. It seemed to be an eternity before; white penetrated him from all angles. He sees the door now, walks to it and proceeds to open it. Inside lay two white garments; now dressed he shuts the door, then curiously opens again. In front of him now is a valley with a deep crest and bright blue sky; it reminded him of all those times he looked for answers. Needing no guidance he jumped, no question could stop him now; nothing could hold him back. Off he went into the beginning and the end, off he went into life, not knowing death; off he went into the place that gave him meaning and understanding…off he went.
